How long should a quality angle valve last?

2026-07-29

High-quality brass angle valves, equipped with ceramic valve cores and EPDM anti-aging sealing rings, typically have a stable service life of 10-15 years under normal household conditions. The brass body of the valve itself is not prone to cracking or aging; the first part to wear out is the internal rubber sealing piece.

Cold water valves have a longer service life; for water heaters and basin hot water angle valves, which are constantly subjected to alternating hot and cold temperatures, the sealing pieces age more quickly and their lifespan will be shortened by 2-3 years.

The service life of angle valves is greatly affected by water quality: in hard water areas, sand and scale continuously wear the ceramic sealing surface; residual chlorine in tap water accelerates the hardening of rubber, making it more prone to not closing tightly and slow dripping.

Angle valves are concealed plumbing accessories and do not require immediate replacement when there is a complete failure. After 8-10 years of occupancy, regular checks can be conducted; if there is dripping or sluggish operation of the switch, it is recommended to replace it directly to avoid water leakage at night and damage to furniture due to water seepage.

When installing, do not forcefully twist the screws to reduce the stress on the valve body, which can effectively extend its service life.
